New Employee Onboarding Guide

Your Path to Success

Follow the steps below to complete your onboarding journey and build a strong foundation for success at Children's of Alabama.

DAY 1: GETTING STARTED
Security Badge & Parking

If you did not receive your badge during Orientation, visit Security to obtain your badge and verify parking assignments.  

Badge access including being able to clock in will not be available until the next business day.


The security office is located at the 16th Street entrance to the 5th Avenue Parking Deck.

Parking Decals are required to use Children's Parking Facilities.

DAY 2: CONNECT & EXPLORE

View Your Timesheet & Timesheet Details

Salaried (Exempt) and Hourly (Non-Exempt) Employees:

  • Scan the QR code for instruction to view your timesheet and timesheet details in Workforce Management (WFM).
  • Salaried (Exempt) Employees: If your time is not recorded accurately, check with your department time editor or supervisor for assistance.

Hourly (Non-Exempt) Employees:

  • Scan the QR code for instruction to submit a Review Clock request in Workforce Management (WFM) to correct any missing clocks.  
  • If you experience issues with Review Clock Form Submission, contact your department time editor or supervisor for assistance.

Okta Multi-Factor Authentication & Password Setup
  • Select and configure an MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication) option.
  • Reset your network password.
  • Use this password for email, Infor, and Children's systems.

Password Requirements

Your password must be at least 8 characters long and include:

  • At least one letter
  • At least one number
  • At least one special character (such as !, @, #, or $)

For security purposes, you will be required to change your password every 120 days.


Blue River is the Children's of Alabama employee intranet and central hub for communication, resources, forms, employee news, and work requests.  You can access the Blue River from any browser of a computer on the Children’s of Alabama network.

Check Your Email Regularly

You should check your Children's of Alabama email at least once each week. We recommend checking on Tuesdays, when the Happenings e-newsletter is distributed.

Regularly reviewing your email will help you stay informed about important announcements, organizational updates, upcoming events, and other news and information across Children's of Alabama.

Open Children's University

Complete all assigned online training, curriculums, and learning activities.

  • Access Learner Home.
  • Review assigned training.
  • Complete Orientation Curriculum.
  • Track progress and due dates.

Lucidoc Policies
Open Lucidoc

Review and acknowledge all assigned policies and procedures.

  • Open My Acknowledgements.
  • Review assigned documents.
  • Submit acknowledgements.

Infor New Hire Tasks

Log into Infor through the Blue River and complete all onboarding activities assigned to you.

  • Access Self Service in Infor to review New Hire Task under My Programs.
  • View HR Profile and Verify Personal Information.
  • Explore My Pay and Benefits.

Update Personal Information

Review and update your personal information in Infor.

  • Verify mailing address.
  • Update phone numbers.
  • Add emergency contacts.
  • Confirm notification preferences.
Your primary mobile number is used for Emergency Safety Notifications.

Meet With Your Supervisor

Schedule time with your supervisor to review expectations and onboarding activities.

  • Department procedures
  • Performance expectations
  • Goals and objectives
  • Training requirements

Benefits Enrollment

If you are eligible for benefits, you are required to attend a Benefits Enrollment session with a Benefit Communication Specialist, even if you do not plan to enroll in benefits at this time.  During New Employee Orientation, you received information about your scheduled appointment, including:

  • Your Benefits Enrollment Appointment Sheet
  • An Overview of Available Benefits Plans
  • A list of Required Documentation for Eligible Dependents
  • Important Enrollment Deadlines
